New Library for Rural Missions

Bright and early on Saturday, March 6, the Teaching Friends Sunday School class of First Baptist Church in Charleston and Lowcountry Orphan Relief made a lot of people happy. The children of migrant workers at Rural Missions on John’s Island received a new bright and cheery library, with books donated by LOR and handmade shelving, made by LOR volunteer, Mr. Bill Dorrity. The books were arranged and labeled by grade level and the room was decorated with fun and colorful posters and cut-outs for the children to enjoy and to help them appreciate reading. This class turned a room into a place of fun and learning for these children and Lowcountry Orphan Relief wants to thank them for all of their love and support and for this great project. Thanks, Class!!!!!!

Coosaw Creek Women’s Club

The Coosaw Creek Women’s Club has been a longtime supporter of LOR. Recently they presented a check to Founder, Lynn Young, and to My Sister’s House from proceeds from various fundraisers they hosted in 2009. Cross Allison Collects Books for LOR

Cross Allison, who turned six on February 16, 2010, had a birthday party and invited his friends to bring a book instead of presents for him, for the children LOR serves. He collected 24 books and delivered them to the children’s closet on March 3. Thank you, Cross,for having such a generous spirit!

Share Um Shoes Gives Large Donation

Founder Lynn Young and Devann Yata CEO of “Share Um Shoes,” a local non-profit that collects slightly used shoes and redistributes them throughout the Lowcountry and abroad. Devann recently brought 171 pairs of shoes for the children whom LOR serves!

Coastal Carolina Corvette Club Supports LOR

On behalf of the Coastal Carolina Corvette Club, President Kim Sheldon presents a check for $6000 to Lynn Young, Founder of Lowcountry Orphan Relief. The Club sponsors “Street Thunder” an open car, truck and bike show every fall with the proceeds going to LOR.

Women Making A Difference

Women Making A Difference held their Seventh Annual Grant Awards Celebration in November, and awarded Lowcountry Orphan Relief $10,000 to help with the purchase and operating costs for LORI, our pick-up and delivery truck. The mission of the organization is to provide grants to institutions and initiatives that advance the well-being of women and children in Charleston. The new truck, brightly painted in red, yellow and blue, was purchased from Steve Jacobs of Marathon Chevrolet who made sure that the truck was in great shape to do its job for serving the needs of abused, neglected, and abandoned children of the Charleston region.

New Library for Connie Maxwell

Lowcountry Orphan Relief refurbished the library/homework room at the Connie Maxwell Children’s Home in Orangeburg, SC. Cathy Keagy and volunteer Lori Bellaciccio painted the room and took “LORI” the delivery truck up to Orangeburg, loaded with 3,000 new books donated by Kate Counts of The Pajama Program and three computers, monitors, keyboards and mice, made possible by a gift from Select Health of SC. A new couch and posters were purchased with funds from the St. Andrew’s Rotary Club of Charleston. The children were very excited to see the room take shape and they were thrilled with all of the new books and computers!! Thank you to all of our volunteers and donors who made this all possible.
