New Library for Rural Missions

Bright and early on Saturday, March 6, the Teaching Friends Sunday School class of First Baptist Church in Charleston and Lowcountry Orphan Relief made a lot of people happy. The children of migrant workers at Rural Missions on John’s Island received a new bright and cheery library, with books donated by LOR and handmade shelving, made by LOR volunteer, Mr. Bill Dorrity. The books were arranged and labeled by grade level and the room was decorated with fun and colorful posters and cut-outs for the children to enjoy and to help them appreciate reading. This class turned a room into a place of fun and learning for these children and Lowcountry Orphan Relief wants to thank them for all of their love and support and for this great project. Thanks, Class!!!!!!

West Virginia Group Helps at Clothing Closet

On Saturday, February 27, led by Andrea Clements, volunteers from the West Virginia University Alumni Club volunteered here at the clothing closet. We would like to thank them for all of their hard work! Go Mountaineers!

Cross Allison Collects Books for LOR

Cross Allison, who turned six on February 16, 2010, had a birthday party and invited his friends to bring a book instead of presents for him, for the children LOR serves. He collected 24 books and delivered them to the children’s closet on March 3. Thank you, Cross,for having such a generous spirit!

Share Um Shoes Gives Large Donation

Founder Lynn Young and Devann Yata CEO of “Share Um Shoes,” a local non-profit that collects slightly used shoes and redistributes them throughout the Lowcountry and abroad. Devann recently brought 171 pairs of shoes for the children whom LOR serves!

Coastal Carolina Corvette Club Supports LOR

On behalf of the Coastal Carolina Corvette Club, President Kim Sheldon presents a check for $6000 to Lynn Young, Founder of Lowcountry Orphan Relief. The Club sponsors “Street Thunder” an open car, truck and bike show every fall with the proceeds going to LOR.

LOR Announces Clothing Closet Dedication Ceremony March 19

Lowcountry Orphan Relief, Inc. would like to announce that as of Friday, January 29, 2010, we are the proud owners of the clothing closet at the Navy Yard at Noisette!! Thanks to a generous donation from the Clare Rose Foundation (through volunteer Elise Furer) for making this possible. We will have a dedication ceremony on Friday, March 19 at noon with the Vincent family and will rename the building the Valerie Vincent Children’s Clothing Closet, in memory of Elises’ sister. We would love to have all of our volunteers and donors come and rejoice with us and have some light lunch. PLEASE RSVP IF YOU INTEND TO COME to cathy@clf1670.org.

HELP FOR HAITI REFUGEES

On Tuesday, February 9, Lowcountry Orphan relief received a call from the S.C.

Department of Social Services requesting winter clothing for the refugees landing

at the Charleston airport. Within two hours, volunteers loaded up “Lori” the

delivery truck with winter clothes, shoes, coats, baby bottles, and various items

requested by the DSS workers.
