The main way we help local at-risk youth and children in foster care is through our distribution center. This is where we sort, store, pack and distribute all donations from the community for the children we are serving. We provide each referred child a “Care Kit” filled with two weeks’ worth of clothing, shoes, new socks & underwear, pajamas, and toiletries as well as school supplies, stuffed animals, and books.
LOR partners with over 300+ agencies and organizations who work together to provide helpful resources for children at critical times in their lives. We receive referrals from The Department of Social Services, title 1 schools, counselors, social workers, hospitals, other non-profits, foster parents, and churches. LOR does not take referrals from biological parents.
LOR served over 5,000 children in 2021, and over 30,000 children since 2006!
Just In Case Closets
We create emergency clothing closets in Title 1 public schools in Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester counties as a school resource for children who attend school without the basic necessities of school life. The closets include underwear, socks, uniforms and toiletries, which helps s to generate a feeling of self worth and helps a child focus on his or her self-esteem.
LOR is actively in 30+ title 1 schools in the tri-county area, and our goal is to add a new school and closet to our list each month!
We host two signature events each year where we get to have fun with some of the children we are serving through LOR!
We host our annual “Beach Day” each summer at Folly Beach for children in foster care. This year’s event is tentatively scheduled for August 13, 2022. (Must be 21 years of age or older to participate and background checks required).
Make A Child Happy Day
We host our annual “Make A Child Happy Day,” a fun, fall festival for children in foster care. This year’s event is November 5, 2022. (Must be 21 years of age or older to participate and background checks required).
