We Need Volunteers!
Join our team of volunteers, and experience the joy of making a difference in the life of a child who needs you!

WAYS TO VOLUNTEER:

1.     DISTRIBUTION CENTER

  • The main way to volunteer is at our Distribution Center. This is where we sort, store, pack and distribute all donations for the children we are serving. We provide each child a Care Kit filled with clothing, shoes, and toiletries as well as school supplies, stuffed animals, and books.

  • When: Monday-Friday between 9am-3pm. We like to schedule volunteers/groups in 2-hour time slots.

  • Where: 1850 Truxtun Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29405 (located on the old navy yard)

  • Please contact Christina at Christina@LORkids.org for available volunteer time slots.
  • REQUIREMENTS: Volunteers must be 12 years of age or older and if between the ages of 12-15 must be accompanied by a guardian/chaperone

2.     NEIGHBORHOOD CAPTAIN

  • Become a Neighborhood Captain in your community! As a NC, you are an ambassador for LOR. You will help spread the word of our mission and are also a drop-off location for your neighbors. We ask that the NC be willing to collect donations from their neighbors and bring it to our distribution center in North Charleston, M-F between 9am-4pm.

  • Check out a current list of our Neighborhood Captains HERE.

3.     LOR AMBASSADOR

  • Become an LOR Ambassador! We need special volunteers who are truly passionate about sharing our mission and are excited about representing LOR at fundraising or outreach events in the community. Often times, companies & organizations request an LOR staff member to speak or be present at their events, and with a tiny staff of 5 employees, it can be difficult to attend all of these wonderful events (many of which are held in the evenings or weekends). We’d love to add you to our team!

4.   FUNDRAISING/COLLECTION DRIVES

  • Great for all ages! Get creative and conduct your own fundraising/collection drive to benefit LOR! You can raise funds or collect high need items and then drop them off right at our distribution center. We will schedule a day to give you a tour and show you firsthand the importance of how each donation we collect goes directly to a child in need!

  • Join LOR’s Birthday Club today! By asking your friends and family to donate to LOR in honor of your birthday. After your birthday, contact LOR to schedule a time to bring your donations.  We will take your picture and showcase your birthday contribution. Online donations can be designated in your honor by Clicking Here.

5.     YOUTH EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM (YEP!)

  • YEP! is a NEW program designed for high school teenagers and older who:

·       are close to aging out of the foster care system

·       have been deemed as at-risk

·       may be suffering or have suffered from abuse and/or neglect

  • Throughout the year, YEP! will focus on planning for secondary education, career development, independent living skills, support groups and much more! The goal of this program is to help empower our teens to have the knowledge and understanding of becoming young adults and strive for greatness. During the summer, we host a 3 week long summer enrichment program as well.

  • If you would like any more information as to how to volunteer with this program, please contact Nulani at nulani@lorkids.org.

  • REQUIREMENTS: Volunteers must be over the age of 21 and may be required to have a completed SLED background check prior to participating.

“We cannot thank you enough for the opportunity to be a part of your incredible organization for a day. We wish you much continued success and hope the communities realize what a valuable service you provide. We wish we lived closer so we could volunteer on a regular basis! Keep up the great work! All the best!” ~Tara Elmore
