Lowcountry Orphan Relief began when Founder, Lynn Young, was serving as a guardian ad litem, speaking in the court system for the rights of children. As Lynn listened to the stories of these young children, who faced removal from the only homes they knew with little more than the clothes on their backs, she began to formulate an idea as to how these children could reclaim dignity and find encouragement.
Lynn witnessed the tremendous needs of abused, neglected or abandoned children in the greater metropolitan area of Charleston. They needed clothing, coats, socks, shoes, underwear, school supplies and toiletries. Lynn worked to provide them with everything they needed where the government left off. Lowcountry Orphan Relief has now grown to not only provide necessary clothing and toiletry items but also offers programs that help youth grow into responsible and productive adults. LOR now serves over 3,000 children annually in the Tri-County Area of Charleston, SC.
